A short history of chess computers
The first chess computer was created in 1957 by Alex Bernstein who was an IBM engineer. It was built on an IBM 704 mainframe and it took about 80 minutes for the engine to calculate its next move.
Technology advanced dramatically after that and the first real chess computers were made. However these were no match for the top chess players in the world. In 1968 International Master David Levy offered a reward of $ 3.000 for any chess computer that would be able to beat him in the next 10 years time. In 1977 the chess engine Kaissa played against Levy and won every single game.
Before the internet era people could also play chess against a computer at home. In 1977 the company Fidelity Electronics issues their first version of the Chess Challenger which allowed everyone to play chess against a computer at home.

These days you can play chess anywhere. At home, at work, during travel. With the internet age playing chess can be done everywhere.
